Cuttlefish: Fish or Something Else?

by admin on November 24, 2010

Cuttlefish are marine animals placed in the order Sepiida. They are cephalopods. The close relatives of cuttlefish are octopuses, nautiluses and squid. One may get confused by the designation as the term fish is attached however they are molluscs and not fishes. Recent studies suggest that they are the most intelligent invertebrates living today. They also bear largest brain to body amount ratio among all invertebrates. Cuttlefish have derived their designation from Ancient English term. The shell is internal. They have W-shaped pupils, eight arms and two tentacles. The arms are provided with denticulated suckers which act as efficient organs of prey capture. More information: Bijou Phillips
